There’s a good deal of discussion regarding air pollution and how it is hurting our planet, but not a lot of talk about soil pollution. Soil pollution is a problem that is just as critical as air pollution. Since soil pollution is in the ground, it’s not that easy to detect. Soil can be examined for contaminants and to what degree are the pollutants present.
When water has been tainted, its run off could cause pollution of the soil. In the event it happens, plants are not going to grow properly at all and you may not get any flowers or fruit production. A lot of the foods we consume have been impacted by pollution in the soil and are usually not very healthy to eat. With the shortage of healthy plants to take out the carbon monoxide from the air, the quality of our air will continue to become worse. The majority of soil pollution has come about through the negligence or errors of man. What has happened is leaky storage tanks loaded with harsh chemicals are buried in the ground thus leaking deadly chemicals into the soil. Sometimes, anything able to grow is destroyed, and not a thing is grown there for a long period.
Chemicals get into the ground from many different sources, such as landfills. For a very long time, trash would be dumped with wild abandon and no concern for the possible health effects. With rainfall or snowfall, the water could flush several chemicals into the ground. The chemicals then fall into underground water tables or rivers and start spreading across a location. At least landfills are currently doing lots of things to protect the soil from the more deadly chemicals, such as putting them in separate areas which have been lined with protective substances.
The use of pesticides and the effects on soil and wildlife have been extensively recorded. Lots of environmental organizations are lobbying the government to protect the soil from dangerous chemicals. But not long ago, a lot of farmers are going organic and government has enforced stringent guidelines for specific pesticides. Companies have had to make changes, such as using more things that are naturally degradable. America has the most severe soil pollution trouble in the world. Soil pollution in the United States are brought on by no respect for the environment and rapid advancement in technology.
With more education, folks are starting to be aware of soil pollution, and a few things are being done about it. A lot of programs across the nation are trying to find ways to minimize the soil pollution. It’s great that so many people are now into organic gardening, and being more mindful about their health.
